Applications for the Book-Study Circles

and Professional Circles

programs are now available.

In a Book-Study Circle, teachers work with colleagues and choose a book or books about a topic, relevant to current class curriculum, which has the potential to impact student learning and achievement. Relevant teaching strategies may also be explored. The book(s) chosen will be read independently and outside of the group’s meeting times. A portion of the Book-Study Circle hours may be designated on the application as hours during which participants will read the chosen book(s). Group participants will meet to share ideas and insights on how the book topic will be used with their students. Participants earn one in-service credit for 15 hours of circle work.
The Professional Circles program provides teachers with structured time outside of the regular school day for reflection on their classroom practices. The program empowers teachers to take responsibility for identifying and satisfying their needs for professional growth, establishes a formal support process for sharing expertise and for problem-solving through group processes.

TC Status:
Teacher Centers have received partial funding for this year. The
application is presently being reviewed by the NYS Education
Department Grants Finance office. Since the staff in Albany
has been reduced, this process will take some time. The Teacher
Center will offer in-service courses this year at the earliest possible time.
Teachers will receive email updates as the process moves along.
